Located in the heart of the city, the Valdepeñas Municipal Museum was inaugurated in June 1987, following the restoration and adaptation of a 16th-century manor house.

In 1991, the museum closed temporarily to carry out both structural renovations of the building and a complete overhaul of the museographic project. It reopened its doors in June 1999.

On the ground floor, visitors can explore rooms dedicated to local painters, notably Óscar García Benedí, Ignacio Crespo Foix, and Francisco Nieva, as well as the archaeology section, which focuses primarily on findings from the excavations at the Iberian settlement of Cerro de las Cabezas, ongoing since 1985.

The building also includes a temporary exhibition hall, offices, a classroom for educational activities, a meeting room, and a restoration workshop located on the second floor.

The archaeology section focuses mainly on discoveries from the Iberian City of Cerro de las Cabezas. The exhibit presents the cultural antecedents of the Ibero-Oretanian world, centered on the Middle and Late Bronze Age cultures from nearby archaeological sites in the Valdepeñas area. It also displays the earliest traces of Iberian culture, such as hand-made painted pottery, red-slip plates, and gray ceramics representing the first phases of settlement.

The Ibero-Oretanian culture reached its peak during the 5th, 4th, and 3rd centuries BC. Polychrome amphorae, stamped ceramics, Greek imports, metal objects, fibulae, and falcatas (curved swords) make up the rich archaeological heritage of this significant protohistoric site.

The Contemporary Art Collection of the Valdepeñas City Council includes works in both painting and sculpture, featuring an eclectic mix of artists, styles, techniques, and materials.

Among the most notable painters are Antonio López, Pancho Cossio, Agustín Úbeda, Antonio Guijarro, Juan Barjola, Martínez Novillo, Alfredo Alcaín, Julio Vaquero, Alejandro Quincoces, Mon Montoya, Óscar Benedí, Pedro Castrortega, José Manuel Ciria, Antón Patiño, and Javier Garcerá.

Among the sculptors represented are Venancio Blanco, García Donaire, Xuxo Vázquez, Santiago de Santiago, David Lechuga, Fernando Kiriko, Oscar Alvariño Belinchón, and Belén González.
